Audition Preparation Camp

Categories: Dance, High School Kids, Middle School Kids, Week 6 (7/23-7/27)

In this camp participants will learn how to show casting agents and directors what they can really do!  We will cover what they are looking for in your resume, headshots, and performance during your audition, and we will prepare you not only for dance calls, but those ever so scary “dancers who can sing” and “singers who can dance” calls as well.  By the end of this week you will feel confident in your ability to choose different outfits for different types of auditions, how you speak and sing in front of those “people that matter” in the audition room, and how you quickly pick up choreography and are able to let your personality shine through when it really counts. You will leave the camp with a professionally take head shot as well as cool images of you in motion from our “Make it REEL – Traditional Photography” camp- all burned to a CD for your convenience. There are many many dancers out there with great technique, but the truly successful ones are those that put the time and effort into not just their talent, but also their presentation, and this camp will show you how to do just that and will give you the confidence you need to truly stand out in your next audition.

Shayna Petruccelli has been dancing since she was a tiny tot and teaching professionally for over ten years.  She received her training in her home state of Arizona at Bender Performing Arts, which has since attained notoriety as the studio which helped train such talent as Ashley Roberts form the Pussycat Dolls, Mandy Jiroux, best friend and dancer for Miley Cyrus, and both Lauren Gottlieb and Lauren Froderman of So You Think You Can Dance.  After graduating high school, Shayna attended the University of Arizona where she completed a four year program in just three years, earning her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Dance with a triple emphasis in ballet, jazz, and modern.  Shayna has also trained at numerous world-renowned dance studios including The Edge in LA, Gus Giordano Dance Center in Chicago, and both Broadway Dance Center and Steps on Broadway in New York City.

As a performer, Shayna has spent five seasons as a Rockette with the Radio City Rockettes, completing her most recent season this past December.  She also performed  as a swing in the broadway revival cast of West Side Story and in the lead role of Brenda in the national tour of Twyla Tharp’s Movin’ Out, in addition to numerous other theater and dance roles.  Prior to these credits, Shayna toured the world, first as a dancer with Royal Caribbean Cruises and later in the role of Minnie/Dance Captain in the Asian/European tour of West Side Story.

As a teacher, Shayna has traveled both nationally and internationally to teach in such far away places as Korea, Italy, and Singapore.  She puts her heart and soul into the training of every student she comes in contact with, hoping to instill love, passion, and respect for the art form so close to her heart.  She believes that anatomically correct technique, dedication, and enjoyment, when put together, will lead to a lifelong love for dance that can be carried over into all aspects of her students’ lives.
