Green Man Group!

Categories: Elementary School Kids, General Music, Instrumental, Week 6 (7/23-7/27)

Well of course it’s green…. it’s CabSumer! This camp is not to be missed!!!  We will include building a “Drumbone” and creating rhythmic patterns to be performed on it.  This class will be broken up into teams of students and they will be required to prepare one strictly rhythmic song and one rhythmic accompaniment  to a popular song of the groups choice.

The goal is to have students combine building (physics) an instrument with rhythmic musical patterns.

  • The students will watch a variety of examples from YouTube of the blue man group performing a strictly rhythmic song as well as a rhythmic accompaniment set to a song.
  • The students will join the “Engineer music- composing a piece” for their lectures on:The elements of music and how they are manipulated – Form, Melody, Harmony, Rhythm etc – how different styles of music use these techniques in different ways (what makes you categorize a piece in a certain style? because of which techniques?)
  • Here are the examples to be shown:

  • The students will then create the rhythms to be performed on the “Drumbone” in their groups.  They will test them on things in whatever room they are in and will fix their patterns accordingly.
  • The groups will then agree on a song to put different rhythms to.  They will find a recording these songs and they will perform their rhythms to this song.
  • The students will be given the materials and tools to make the “Drumbone.”
  • The teacher will help each group but will have the students make a plan for how they will make the instrument and what tools they will need.
  • The students will create the instruments.
  • The students will try to perform their previously created rhythm, and rhythm for the song on the instrument.
  • They will then alter or fix their song in their groups and will create new rhythms if their rhythms and songs do not work.
  • The students will then perform these songs during friday’s informance.
