In this week long camp, students will spend five days in the life of a Cab Major.  Areas covered will be Photography/Photo Editing, Digital Art and Graphic Design Basics, Media Literacy, Creative Writing, Script Writing, and Videography.  The course will conclude with working on a web site in combination with another camp.

Choreographer and dancer Nisha, creates a unique style of living poetry for her students through dance.  With over 20 years of teaching experience, performing, and commitment to ongoing study of the classical, contemporary, and folk dances of India, her goal is for every student to become skillful in the true culture of the Indian Arts through dance.  Nisha specializes in teaching and performing choreographic presentations on various semi-classical forms, folk dance styles, and contemporaneous bollywood themes.

We’ll look at model poems in innovative presentations like Poem Flow at poets.org, and animated poems at PBS’s Poetry Everywhere. The class will also explore some old-fashioned kinetic methods of writing, like the cut-up and the cento form to create our poems. Using PowerPoint software’s word animation, we’ll explore ways to highlight the kinetic qualities of words, to convey and extend a poem’s meaning. This class is for anyone who enjoys playing with words!

In this writing workshop we will read model poems inspired by the sea, and write responses. Our ocean-inspired poems will practice forms such as the Pantoum from ancient Malaya, the Burmese Climbing Rhyme, and a middle Eastern form, the Ghazal.

Mr. Greider will be facilitating this exciting class about how to manipulate clay or ceramics. Also included in this class will be the added skills of spinning or “throwing” clay on the wheel. Students will spend a week learning the ins and outs of 3D modeling and texturing. Employing a widely used open source modeling program called Blender, they will bring their ideas to life using the same tricks and tips animators and game developers use to create three dimensional digital models. They will then render their models and use post processing techniques to create a final product.

Using the same techniques as graphic designers, students will learn the art of photographic illustration. Manipulating and combining photographs of people, places, and things, to create scenes limited only by their imagination. Students will learn the tools available to them in Adobe Photoshop to create fantastic and believable works of digital art.

In this two week camp students will begin by learning the basic principles of level design in a video game and what makes for a fun player experience. They will then design their own level and build it in the Unreal Development Kit, a program from Epic Games that runs off of the same engine that powers Unreal Tournament III. Students will also learn Kismet, Unreal’s visually based programing language, and use it to create puzzles and unique experiences within their own level.

We’ll start with an overview of how photosensitive image making works, a little history, some demos and experiments with sun prints or other easy non-darkroom photosensitive process. Working with our Audition Preparation dance program you learn to photograph dancers in motion with 35mm cameras… then its off to the darkroom to develop your film and make prints.
